Refuge America @One Journey Festival.
One Journey Festival brings together individuals, refugees from across the country, alias and organizations to form a community bonding over food, conversations, dance and culture to create a renewed narrative not only about fear, hate, rejection, persecution but also about love, acceptance, welcome and family.
Edafe Okporo founder of Refuge America delivered a Speech at the One Journey Festival in Washington D.C. on the shared prosperity of the United States, and the contribution of refugees. He made a remark on the idea of America not being a melting pot but a melting point.
The United States, A Melting Point.
A place where different stripes come to be reformed as one, the brining together of red and blue to form purple. He urges the audience not to be quiet or complacent to the challenges refugees face. Despite the increasing numbers of refugees around the world, he said everyone have a unique experience and a story to contribute the American story. We cannot forget the individuality of who we are, so we are not a melting pot, we accept the difference of each individual while trying to create one shared story, so we are a melting point.
